Most of us rarely take time to pause in our lives.
Instead, we go and we do. We move through all the chaos as leaders, entrepreneurs, parents and creators.
We’ve become really great at the practice of doing.
- Doing the next thing for our business.
- Doing the next thing for our family.
- Doing the next thing for our community.
These can all be noble pursuits. They can have merit and necessity. There’s likely a strong argument or story that these things need to be done!
However, doing comes with a cost.
It requires space and energy. It puts our minds and bodies under stress. It uses resources we need to function.
Constant doing will eventually take us out of balance.
Without balance we fall and fail. We struggle to execute. We become unstable from the lack of energy.
Balance is restored by being.
Being is not having an agenda. It’s the feeling of peace and alignment with our innate human nature. It offers new space and energy.
Yet being isn’t always easy. In fact, being is much harder than doing for most of us.
We’re surrounded by stimuli. We’re conditioned to execute and keep up. We’re encouraged to constantly go and do.
Being requires an intentional pause.
- A pause from the next thing that needs to get done.
- A pause from the next desire or demand.
- A pause to rest, recharge and reset.
When we pause for being, we restore energy for doing.
